This programme is led by our Doctors and our two Midwives. The combined antenatal care programme allows you to be under joint care of your GP and obstetrician during pregnancy. This is internationally recognised as the best and most convenient form of ante-natal care. Visits to us that are related to the pregnancy are free of charge once the HSE application form is completed in the surgery.

Ideally you should visit one of our doctors as soon as you discover you are pregnant. We will then refer you to your local maternity hospital where you will be seen before 20 weeks for assessment, blood tests and a scan. Subsequently your visits will alternate between the hospital and GP and become more frequent as your pregnancy progresses. Combined ante-natal care entitles you to 7 Antenatal visits, a 2 week check for baby and a 6 week check for mother and baby. Combined ante-natal care also includes visits to your GP at 6 weeks after the baby is born.

We also facilitate those patients who choose semi-private or private ante-natal care by arranging appropriate referral.

SMEAR TESTS: A smear test is a simple procedure performed by either of our practice nurses mid menstrual cycle.

Kildare Medical Centre participates in the National Cervical Screening Programme Cervical Check. Cervical screening is the most effective method of reducing a women’s risk of developing cervical cancer. Cervical Check provides free smear tests to all women living in Ireland aged between 25 and 60 years (Every 3 years for the age group 25-44 and every 5 years for the age group 45-60).

If the result of a women’s previous smear test recommends further screening, she is eligible for a free smear test within Cervical Check. If you wish to have a smear test performed outside the suggested screening programme intervals a charge will be incurred.
